Video excerpt
In 1903, Anna Ancher painted Missionsmøde ved Fyrbakken paa Skagen. In the harsh landscape between dunes, heath and sea, the congregation gathers in an environmental community where survival and conviction are interwoven. The landscape is frozen in a single moment, and the practices and norms of the local community are cultivated for future generations.
Para is a newly produced exhibition by MadsJuel that examines the landscape as motif and con- ceptual framework in relation to the historically and socially charged environments that, at all times, shape the structures and rules to which we are all subject. The exhibition takes the heathland as its point of departure, as well as the shifting conceptions of nature that have often - with profit in mind - transformed the natural world around us, and explores the interrelated power structures of landscape, language and body. The exhibition invites us to step into a “para-landscape” (para: ‘beside’), where the landscape becomes a mirror for society, technology and humanity, and where the concept of time is open to renegotiation.
