The queer body in this series of portraits drifts through the studio — leaning against things or sprawling across the floor. The title of the series borrows from Michelangelo’s studies of the body’s ideal proportions (a man’s arm). For a long time, the European project has sought to standardize the body as a product, for the benefit of industry and the economy, but rarely for the individual, as Emma Holten writes in her book Deficit — here, both bodies and time are made equivalent to money. In Raving, theorist and writer McKenzie Wark writes about a notion of time outside capitalist optimization, and about bodies considered useless. At raves, time becomes subversive and takes the shape of resistance. For a moment,“they become free from a world that hates and misunderstands them.”

The series was shot while resident at the Accademia di Danimarca (Rome, IT)
